I didn’t even know what blogging was until about 10 minutes ago. And here I am an aspiring journalist trying to write about myself – really.. how hard can it be?!

Here it goes...

I’m Jennifer, I’m 23 years old and I live just outside London in a place called Langley, Slough. I was born in Hornchurch, Essex and I went to University in Nottingham. I know - I’ve pulled the short straw – born in Essex, raised in Slough, studied in Nottingham (the gun crime capital of England) but it’s never done me any harm apart from my inner reluctance to accept that Langley is more part of Slough than Windsor!

The first thing you’d notice about me is that I look Mediterranean. I have olive skin and dark hair (when it’s not highlighted!)

But my mum is Indian, she was born and raised in Trinidad, a small Caribbean Island just off the coast of Venezuela for your information. People do get it wrong – when we went to war with Iraq one of my friends, bless her, was ever so concerned for me and my family living in - Baghdad!! And I’ve been asked if Trinidad has introduced the Euro yet or how far away from Sri Lanka it is!!

My dad was born and bred in England. He’s a white man – ginger to be precise. So as repetitive as it is to tell people where I'm from when I meet them – or when strangers come up to me and start talking in Greek, Spanish, Italian - I've had Hindi as well (no lie) I’ve been fortunate enough to not turn out to be a ginger Indian!

I don’t want to waffle on too much about my family and friends – they may not be too impressed if they ever read my blog. But I’ll mention them briefly...

I have two brothers Kev and Trev who really are the kindest, sweetest men - you've done well mum and dad! I have a brilliant network of friends - the majority of them I met at school and we have jokes that run back years.

I have an enormous extended family on my mum’s side (she happens to be one of eleven) that live all over the world – mostly in Trinidad but also Canada and Australia.

So this is my first attempt, how did I do? So far I think blogging is weird but wonderful. It’s not as simple as facebook - which might I add is 'sooo last year!'

Blogging is this seasons 'black' - it’s notched up the levels of narcissism and voyeurism. How odd that you can tell more about a person online and in one chunk than you can by talking to them face to face.

What a world we live in now, gone are the dinosaur days of posting letters and using pay phones!!

I am proud that I've finally jumped on the technology train.. I don't have an ipod, have never seen a wii or even have a clue what podcasting is! Maybe I don't give myself enough credit - I thought I'd never get my head around msn messenger or facebook and now I'm possibly classed as an addict!

Maybe next week I'll purchase an iphone......
